Research & collections

With some 1200 works of art, Halberstadt Cathedral’s treasures are the most extensive mediaeval church treasures to have been preserved at their place of use. They thus offer ideal conditions for research and education: on top of their artistic value, the works provide important information about their origins and the conditions and combinations in which they were used. They tell us about the liturgy at Halberstadt Cathedral, about the history of the church and of art, about business, trade and commerce, and about the diocese’s mediaeval links outside the region.
Halberstadt Cathedral’s treasures are unique in the way they bring together in one place almost all genres of art and a multitude of epochs and countries of origin.
